A holistic approach plays a major role in the manual therapy training programme offered by our partner organisation INOMT, which is based on a biocybernetic concept.

The programme has been completely overhauled by INOMT. In biomechanical terms, this means that the therapy has been significantly modified and improved at a local level. The courses are structured so that the course series can be completed within two years. The courses offered by the INOMT Institute are recognised by all health insurance funds and professional associations and can therefore be billed to the relevant funding bodies as ‘Manual Therapy’ once the certificate has been obtained.

INOMT has, amongst other things, reviewed the convex-concave rule and, together with scientists, established that it is based on inaccurate assumptions. As there is no rolling motion in a healthy synovial joint (only very minimal in exceptional cases), one cannot deduce the sliding behaviour from rolling. Furthermore, many new techniques are demonstrated, such as walking compression (rotational gliding), oscillation (‘shuffling’), etc. There is no translational gliding in healthy synovial joints. The movement is almost always rotational gliding. As manual therapy should be performed as functionally as possible, these facts must be taken into account in therapy. Another change in the INOMT concept is the justification of manual therapy from a neurophysiological perspective. The course is demanding, yet designed in such a way that it can be easily put into practice. Many neurophysiological explanations for the development of symptoms and for the effects of therapy are provided. A holistic understanding of manual therapy is the primary focus here.
